Judaism Overview
Judaism originated around 4000 years ago in Israel. Jewish people believe that there is a single God who created the universe and shares an individual relationship with every Jew. They consider Abraham, who with God established their covenant as the father of their family. It is believed that the Torah which contains the law of God was given to the Jews by Moses around 1250BC. It is a strict rule that the Torah must not be touched, so a special pointer called a Yadi is used to follow words whilst reading it. The Jews have many stories, celebrations, traditions and holidays that they celebrate. One of the most popular and commonly known Jewish holidays is Hanukkah.
